Brighton bows to the Birdman

22.07.2010 General News

After travelling the continent, the godfather of skateboarding, Tony Hawk, finally landed in the home of Gumball!

Even though our HQ is in London, the Gumball family drove down to Brighton to show our support to our friend and 5 times Gumballer (oh, AND 10 time X Games gold medalist).

The Hawk and his team Sandro Dias, Jesse Fritsch, Kevin Staab and Neil Hendrix, gave the ultimate performance to celebrate the end of the tour in front of a sell out crowd of over 7,000 people on the famous Brighton sea front.

Talk about putting on a show!

In a 'family event' such as this one, lucky little man Cash Cooper  was even given a private skateboarding lesson - well, almost private - by famous godfather Tony.

Tony and friends gave the longest show of the tour with a multiple of magical combinations. Tony Hawk and Sandro Dias, with 10 and 5 X-Games medals respectively, performed a sublime 540° together. After the famous 900° in Barcelona, Tony then landed a 720° and 540° ollie on the biggest portable ramp in the UK, owned by Pete King.

Also at the Quiksilver Tour was one quarter of Dirty Sanchez and former Gumballer, Matthew Pritchard. He misses us terribly!

The beach, the crowd, skating in the sunset... Ahhh, it doesn't look like a bad way to finish a tour!
